Budapest winters can be biting cold (-5°C is common). Yet, the boats run every day.

The Setup

99% of tourist boats have fully enclosed lower decks.

• Heating: Industrial heaters keep the cabin at a toasty 20-22°C. You will likely take your coat off.
• Fogging: The main issue in winter is windows fogging up due to the temperature difference.
  • Good boats (Legenda, Silverline) have demisting blowers.
  • Older tub boats might require you to wipe the window with a napkin.

Outdoor Decks in Winter

Can you go outside? Yes.

• Most boats keep the top deck open.
• Why go out? No glass reflection = better photos.
• Strategy: Sit inside, drink your tea/wine. When the Parliament comes up, put on your coat, run upstairs for 5 minutes, take the photo, run back down.

Best Winter Boats

Look for catamarans or modern custom builds. They have better insulation. Avoid the very old, small Soviet-era hydrobuses if you want guaranteed warmth, as they can be drafty.
