RiverRide Budapest Review: The Bus That Swims in the Danube

It's a bus! It's a boat! Review of the RiverRide amphibious tour. Great for kids, but is it good for sightseeing?

Yellow bus splashing into the Danube river

You are sitting on a yellow bus driving down a busy street. Suddenly, it drives down a ramp and splashes into the river. It doesn't sink; it floats. This is RiverRide.

The Concept

It's an amphibious vehicle.

  • Part 1 (Land): ~45 minutes driving around Pest (Heroes' Square, Andrássy Avenue, Opera).
  • The Splash: The highlight. The bus enters the water at a specialized ramp in northern Pest.
  • Part 2 (Water): ~45 minutes cruising down to the Parliament and back.
  • Exit: Drives back up the ramp and drops you off at the starting point (Széchenyi István square).

For Kids?

Kids. Love. It. The moment of hitting the water usually gets a round of applause and screams of delight. It's a novelty that breaks the boredom of standard history tours.

For Adults?

  • Pros: It's unique. You cover both land and water without switching vehicles.
  • Cons: The bus is slow on water. The windows are smaller than on a dedicate sightseeing boat, so the view isn't as good as on a Legenda glass boat.
  • Comfort: It can get hot in summer (though there is AC).

Price

It is more expensive than a standard boat tour (~€30-40) because of the complex machinery and dual crew (driver + captain certification).

Verdict: The best tour for families with children aged 5-12.
